COVID-19 Price Gouging Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating reports of price gouging throughout the United States amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The Michigan Department of Attorney General recently served a cease-and-desist letter to Menards Inc., owner of more than 300 home improvement stores across 14 states, regarding accusations of price gouging. Investigators claim Menards doubled the prices of certain cleaning products, such as bleach, and imposed drastic price hikes on face masks. Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine, meanwhile, disclosed credible allegations of exploitative price surges on cleaning and disinfectant products at five retailers across the District. One convenience store doubled water bottle prices, while a beauty supply shop sold pairs of latex gloves for $1.99 each. Typical 100-count packs of latex gloves sell for under $5.00.
